During milleniums, Ekain cave’s paintings have been hidden from our eyes, refugees in the fragile microclimate of the cave, which has secured their preservation. But, how could we contemplate the anxieties of that remote humanity without spoiling them? The idea to built a replica was emerged from this necessity. In this way the prehistorical area of Aranzadi Natural Science Society and the City Council of Zestoa thought. It was 1985, and in 2002, the objective to diffuse the inheritance, safeguarding its conservation, will be completed.

The replica is located to few metres from Zestoa and at the appropriate distance from the original cave, to preserve its security. The obligatory access to go walking and other conservatism actions have the objective to safeguard and regenerate the Natural and environmental values of the valley. The same valley, where the humanity that painted Ekain cave walls, lived.
